The Controller Area Network (CAN or CANBUS) technology was developed by Robert Bosch GmbH (Germany) in 1986 from the need to reduce the weighty, error- prone and expensive wiring harnesses in passenger vehicles.

Since then, CANBus technology has found its way into many other sectors thanks to its reliability and affordable pricing.

Today CAN-based technologies can be found controlling lifts, buildings, factories, agricultural vehicles, marine electronics and in aerospace, whilst all the time continuing to strengthen its presence in the automotive market.
