CONTROLLER AREA NETWORK

The Controller Area Network (CAN or CANBUS) technology was developed by Robert Bosch GmbH (Germany) in 1986 from the need to reduce the weighty, error- prone and expensive wiring harnesses in passenger vehicles.

Since then, CANBus technology has found its way into many other sectors thanks to its reliability and affordable pricing.

Today CAN-based technologies can be found controlling lifts, buildings, factories, agricultural vehicles, marine electronics and in aerospace, whilst all the time continuing to strengthen its presence in the automotive market.

The stringent quality requirements and competitive nature of the automotive sector have ensured that CANBus has matured into the most robust and cost-efficient protocol in the industrial marketplace today.
